Our Timeline


  • January 8 - Saw picture of V on Facebook
  • January 12 - Met V and host family at park
  • January 12 - Called host family to tell them we wanted to adopt V
  • January 13 - Got call that V is already being pursued for adoption
  • January 21 - Met with social worker for intake meeting for home study
  • January 25 - Submitted paperwork for home study
  • February 1 - Home study
  • February 8 - Received rough draft of home study
  • February 19 - Received completed copy of home study
  • February 22 - Lab work for Crystal 
  • February 23 - Garth FORGOT to get his lab work done...try again on Monday, honey.
  • February 23 - Submitted I-600 form to USCIS
  • February 23 - Received dossier...now just need to sign and have everything notarized
  • February 25 - Garth forgot lab work...again.
  • February 26 - Garth lab work (woot!) and Crystal physical
  • February 27 - BIG DAY! Submitted first grant proposal, got dossier notarized
  • March 1 - SENT DOSSIER FOR (free) APOSTILLE!!!!!!
  • March 5 - Dossier sent from Indiana to US facilitator
  • March 8 - Received appointment letter for fingerprinting (Appointment date scheduled: 4/1/13)
  • March 15 - Discover Dossier is missing
  • March 19 - Fingerprinting done for USCIS (We showed up early...in and out in no time!)
  • March 20-22 - Re-do dossier
  • March 26 - My mom takes dossier to Indy for apostille
  • March 26 - Dossier numéro dos mailed to US facilitator
  • March 27 - Dossier numéro dos received by US facilitator
  • March 29 - USCIS approval! "Notice of favorable determination...blah, blah, blah"
  • April 1 - Dossier numéro uno shows up to US facilitator (is this some sick April Fool's joke? It was postmarked March 27....)
  • April 2 - Dossier is hand delivered to facilitator in UA
  • April 2 - Received USCIS approval!
  • April 10 - Dossier submitted to SDA for approval
  • April 24 - Got news that home ownership letter was missing return address, so we will probably need to resubmit.
  • Fed Ex new (apostilled, thanks to my mom) home ownership letter to Ukraine one day after rest of "missing" dossier was sent. The facilitator will be able to piece together what she needs to resubmit as soon as the other dossier is "soft rejected"
  • May 7 - Got news that our dossier was ACCEPTED! PRAISE GOD!!!!
  • May 14 - Received news that D is available for international adoption.
  • May 21 - Got our appointment date.....JUNE 17 at 10 am.
  • June 15 - Left Fort Wayne
  • June 16 - Arrived in Kiev
  • June 17 - SDA Appointment
  • June 18 - Received referral and boarded overnight train
  • June 19 - Met D and began paperwork
  • June 21 - Left Donetsk
  • June 22 - Arrived in Fort Wayne
  • July 11- Left Fort Wayne
  • July 12- Court
  • July 25 - Applied for passport and birth certificate
  • July 26 - Gotcha Day!
  • July 26 - WORST NIGHT OF MY LIFE.
  • July 27 - Passport issued
  • July 29 - Aug 1 - Medical testing
  • Aug 1 - Visa issued
  • Aug 5 - Home again home again!
